By integrating a team of trusted professionals, including outside attorneys, financial advisors, and mental health experts, we provide comprehensive guidance without sacrificing neutrality or integrity.
Our process is designed for individuals who value professional expertise, structure, and efficiency while seeking a cost-effective alternative to attorney-driven negotiations or litigation. We believe in providing high-quality mediation services that are neither the cheapest nor the most expensive, striking the middle ground where compromise, fairness, and thoroughness drive the best possible outcomes. A Personal Message from Attorney-Mediator Katie Arthurs
I’m Katie Arthurs, founder of NEO Family Law. As a family law attorney and professionally trained mediator, I have dedicated my career to helping families navigate some of the most challenging transitions in life.
My journey began in litigation, where I built a strong foundation in Ohio marital and custody law. But, through years of courtroom advocacy, I came to a powerful realization—the court system was not built for families, and families were not equipped for court. That understanding led me to create a better way for people to move through divorce and custody disputes with dignity, structure, and cooperation.
My belief in a holistic approach to family law stems from my grandfather, a physician who treated the whole patient, not just the symptoms. I have carried that philosophy into my practice—helping families navigate not only the legal aspects of divorce but also the emotional and financial realities that come with it. Just as my grandfather sought to heal, I seek to restore balance and structure in the lives of families facing separation. Divorce, custody, and other family matters are more than legal issues—they are life transitions that require a thoughtful, comprehensive approach.
A Better Way Forward
Throughout my litigation career, I saw firsthand how divorce and custody matters can become contentious, costly, and emotionally draining. Often, this was not due to any fault of the attorneys—who were doing the job they were trained and ethically bound to do—but rather the adversarial nature of the legal system itself. Traditional divorce and custody litigation forces parties into positions of opposition, escalating conflict instead of fostering resolution. I knew there had to be a better way—one that incorporated the law while also prioritizing dignity, respect, and practical solutions.
That’s why I left a reputable Cleveland law firm and built NEO Family Law on the principles of collaboration, transparency, and problem-solving. I believe in bringing people together—including trusted professionals and my colleagues—to create structured solutions that allow families to move forward without getting stuck in resentment and prolonged legal battles. Mediation is not just a tool for reaching agreements—it is a path to empowerment that helps individuals retain control over their own future while minimizing conflict and cost.
Why Mediation Works
Mediation shifts the dynamic of divorce and custody matters from confrontation to cooperation. It provides a neutral ground where both parties can engage in structured discussions guided by sound legal principles. It allows for advocacy and legal advice while also ensuring that both sides play by the same rules to achieve a fair and workable resolution. This process benefits not only clients but also their attorneys, who can focus on advising and guiding rather than engaging in drawn-out conflict.
By using mediation, couples can avoid unnecessary conflict that is often created by the legal process itself; identify objectives early by gathering the necessary information; brainstorm and discuss solutions to bridge impasses in a way that meets both parties’ needs; preserve family relationships particularly when children are involved; and reduce the financial and emotional impact, which makes the transition smoother for everyone.
I started my mediation practice because I believe divorce and custody matters do not have to be a battle. It can be a structured, dignified process that focuses on solutions rather than blame. Mediation helps put confidence back into parties, allowing them to make their own decisions and create a new life that is forward-focused, rather than rooted in conflict.
If you are facing a family law matter, I invite you to consider mediation as your path forward. At NEO Family Law we are committed to helping families find resolution, preserve relationships, and build a better future—because separation is not just an ending, it is also a new beginning.
